In any case, the good thing about it is that I understand my lectures 85% of the time. There's a five percentile taken off because of the Australian slang.
I saying this because in the past, I've always been able to discuss with the lecturers on a one-on-one basis in which my half deft ears were more able to decipher the tones and nuances of their speech. In a class of 50 students, the high pitched voice of the lecturer standing in the front is very much diluted by... the bodies of at least 15 people in front of me and becomes more or less a monotone. And the other 10% is because they're using terminology of the graphically immersed.
But still, it's been fun.
Within 3 core courses and an elective, I've managed to meet these personalities:
- A lecturer who has assigned us a bible of historical philosophical design text to study
- A lecturer whom worked at a company which changed it's name so many times she couldn't quite remember them all.
- A lecturer who loves type, font families and the nuances of making a font, to a point where he was almost erotically involved.
- A lecturer who laughs a lot and has made many references to 'ice' in its many forms and meanings.
- A small lecturer who speaks fast in a high pitched voice who laughs a lot and runs through a lot of designs.
- A lecturer who has a clear voice but chooses only to speak at certain times when she wants to add in her thoughts.
- A lecturer who sits at the back of the class so that every time she wants to add in something, we play tennis with our heads.
- A kind lecturer whom told everyone to think carefully if they belonged in her basic class.
- And today's lecturer, whom loved paper almost as much as the other one loved type.
Now I have to mope over leaving my 1 meter metal ruler back home because now I need it to cut paper as lovingly as the last lecturer...
Also, I have to get paper scissors (23aud), bone folder (12aud), and pvc glue (10aud).
All donations welcome.
Cheers
